Volunteers from the local community carry out the majority of practical works at Hilbert Woods.

We believe that community engagement is the key to managing any greenspace to its full potential. To achieve this, the Kent High Weald Partnership works alongside local groups to help fundraise, organise and then carry out practical conservation work on their local greenspaces. Without the ongoing commitment of volunteers and local ‘Friends of ...' groups, it would not be feasible to carry on managing nature reserves, and a significant loss of biodiversity would result.

During 2009 we are planning to set up a ‘Friends of Hilbert Woods' group, and are confident that this will help to further increase the reserves appeal throughout the local community.
