High Weald AONB

We work in the Kent High Weald, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for its rolling hills, small, irregular fields, abundant woods and hedges, scattered farmsteads and sunken lanes. www.highweald.org

Section One

Southborough Valley - Old Pembury

5½ miles - allow 2¾ hours

This section of the walk travels through the historic Somerhill Park which is studded with magnificent trees and is a very important wildlife area, with springtime bluebells and wood anemones. The Southborough valley still displays evidence of its industrial past as names and buildings still recall this period. Tudeley Church which was mentioned in the Domesday Book is a worthwhile detour especially for it's 20th Century stained glass windows by Marc Chagall.

Main highlights of this section include:

  • Southborough Valley
  • Somerhill House & Parkland
  • Park Farm Hop Gardens
  • All Saints Church, Tudeley
  • Tudeley Woods Nature Reserve
