Education & Environment

F4T Project Education and Environment

Make learning about food growing, preparation, cooking and eating much more accessible. We have achieved this by running “Let’s Cook” and other workshops (some leading to NPTC accreditation), setting up school garden clubs, converting allotments into outdoor classrooms, running promotional events and fun days and now developing this website to become an exciting one stop shop educational resource! A fully equipped training kitchen has been set up at Pepenbury where food preparation, cooking skills and life skills are taught each week day.

Education - By learning how to sow, grow, prepare and cook your own food, Food4Thought is helping to improve understanding of where our food comes from and also helps give a great sense of achievement. This leads to improved skill sets, self esteem and employment opportunities and also generates great volunteering opportunities. Many with learning difficulties really enjoy working on the growing areas and the opportunity for social
interaction helps improve their life skills development. Teachers have found the growing areas to be a great place to teach a wide range of subjects and pupils have found it to be an enjoyable and stimulating environment in which to learn.

Environment - Food4Thought project has also helped raise environmental awareness through promotion of a number of key principles designed to positively influence behaviours including - buying locally, encouraging recycling and composting, helping reduce the trend for packaged food , reducing waste including materials going to landfill and minimizing carbon footprint.

In Summary – the Food4Thought Project is hoping to play an important part in helping tackle the reasons for obesity, encourage healthy eating, reduce poor diet and help in maintaining a healthy weight for those in the target area.
