Volunteers are 'All Aboard' in Lamberhurst!

boardwalkjuly13-webA new Heritage Lottery Funded project for Lamberhurst has seen volunteers taking-up tools in a bid to improve access at a local beauty spot.

Equipped with sledge hammers, rabbit spades, metal spikes and power drills, volunteers from the local community took to the boards, and were soon making giant leaps towards a less muddy footpath for all!

Using specially designed recycled plastic materials, volunteers began working on installing 85m of boardwalk at the Gravel Pit, which is an important Local Wildlife Site. The new walkway will allow people to enjoy the circular path throughout the year, and whatever the weather. It will also improve access to the pond, where a new dipping platform is being built.

Donald Page, who has volunteered with the Kent High Weald Partnership for over 10 years, said, "It is always great to be able to work on something like this, that you know will make a difference to people's enjoyment of a really special site. Everyone walking past today has been really grateful for what we're doing. We'd just like them to come and lend a hand if they can!"

Work will continue on the boardwalk and pond dipping platform over the coming months. To find out more about our work in Lamberhurst, visit the Community Pages of our website.
