Lamberhurst Finds New Friends!

Friends of Lamberhurst CommonA conservation project for Lamberhurst Common is bringing together a new group of Friends from the local community, to help look after this important Local Wildlife Site.

A sunny Saturday morning in October saw the first day of practical action by the newly formed Friends of Lamberhurst Common. Taking up bowsaws, slashers and loppers, a group of 20 local residents got to grips with a tangle of bramble and small trees, and helped to re-establish a path alongside a pond. As well as improving access, the Friends helped to improve the habitat conditions of the pond by opening up the shallow margins to more sunlight. See the photo gallery to see how the day went!

Work will carry on in November to help finish clearing a circular path from the public car park, to the pond, and back again. This will open up a small section of the woodland to more light; creating new basking and foraging areas for insects, mammals and birds. Further explanation of how this path clearance will benefit wildlife can be found by clicking here.
