Crane Valley Local Nature Reserve

Crane Valley Local Nature Reserve is situated near the centre of Cranbrook. It consists of woodland and a wet meadow. The meadow was an old mill pond for the Cranbrook wollen industry which declined before the 17th Century.

We manage the wet meadow for lesser horsetail, which is quite rare, we do this by removing greater horsetail during the summer and clearing small areas, and then, in the early autumn we cut the whole meadow.  In the spring time the meadow is carpeted with ragged robin. To help less able users visiting the reserve there is a boardwalk on the circular walk.
