Growing Success for Kent Free Trees
The Kent Free Trees Scheme goes from strength to strength as over 8000 trees were given out to just under 300 successful Tunbridge Wells Borough applications. Staff from the Kent High Weald Project distributed all of the trees in 2 very busy days of collections at Dunorlan Park and Bedgebury Pinetum.
This represents a huge increase on the 2007 figure and is a great indication of how keen the residents of Tunbridge Wells Borough are to make this part of Kent a greener place to live and work.
All the trees are native to South East England and each applicant can choose up to 25 trees that best suit their soil conditions, completely free. The trees are distributed from two locations by Kent High Weald Project, who administer the scheme in Tunbridge Wells Borough. We hope the scheme will be bigger and better in 2009 and so keep an eye out for the launch of the scheme in the summer. The scheme was open to individuals, schools and businesses in 10 Boroughs and Districts across Kent and hopefully this year's Scheme will be open to the whole of Kent.
The Free Trees Scheme was made possible from financial contributions by Network Rail, Kent County Council, National Grid, UPM Tilhill and respective Borough and District Councils.
